An employment visa alone does not give a right to work and stay in Ukraine. Unless exempt by national law, foreigners must also obtain work and residence authorization. How can I get an employment visa?
After the work permit or accreditation card is issued (based on your employer's request), you must visit a Ukrainian consulate in your home country in order to apply for a single entry (VD) visa.
Can I apply for an employment visa on my own?
You will need your company's support in obtaining a work permit/accreditation card before you can apply for an employment visa. Furthermore in case your visa application is based on an accreditation card, an invitation letter from your host company is required which must be verified by the Ministry of Economy in Ukraine.

What documents do I need to submit?
The standard documents required to obtain an employment visa are a passport, photos, application form, health insurance and notarized copy of your work permit. Additionally your company will have to provide various supporting corporate documents.
Legalized diploma and a criminal record certificate from a country of latest residence is required for work permit process. For home payroll the contract between the companies and the Assignment letter will be required by the Labor Office.
How long do I have to wait for my papers to be processed?
The complete immigration process make take up to three months, therefore assignments should be planned well in advance. Authorities can shorten or extend processing times according to their requirements.

An employment visa is issued for up to one year validity, but allows single entry for maximum of 45 days. A residence permit is issued for the period of the work permit, which is generally valid for one year as well with the possibility of extension.
If my passport expires before my employment visa expires, what should I do?
An employment visa is not issued beyond passport expiration. Upon visa application, authorities check if the passport is valid at least one month after the expiration date of the requested visa. In case this criteria is not met, the applicant is requested to renew his/her passport.
When my employment visa expires, how can I re-enter Ukraine and accept a new job?
Upon work permit expiration, in case your company is extending your work contract, you may extend your work permit in the country. Based on the work permit extension, temporary residence permit extension is also possible. There is no need to extend the employment visa.
Is there a grace period to renew employment visa?
No. In case you do not extend your work and residence permits you are to leave Ukraine before permits expire.
Can I come to Ukraine on a tourist visa to search and apply for jobs?
You can search for jobs on a tourist visa, but in case you find a job you must return to your home country to apply for an employment visa.
What happens when an employer asks me to work immediately without an employment visa?
This is illegal and should be avoided. The Ukrainian labor office conducts regular audits to check if employers and employees have the necessary permits for employment. In case non-compliance is identified, a fine ranging from twenty to forty times the minimum tax exempt income will be imposed on a foreigner for violation of terms of stay.

A work permit is issued for a specific employer and employee as well as the residence permit, therefore upon change of employment both permits must be canceled/withdrawn, a new work permit, visa D (outside of Ukraine) and new residence permit must be obtained, based on new employment.
Aside from obtaining an employment visa, how can I have residency in Ukraine?
A temporary residence permit must be arranged upon arrival. Residence permit gives the right to a foreigner to reside on the territory of Ukraine and allows multiple travels out of the country during the validity of foreigner’s work permit. Within ten calendar days after the residence permit card is obtained, address registration (propiska) must be arranged with the permission of the foreigner’s landlord.
How can my partner / spouse or children who work and live in Ukraine sponsor my residency?
Dependents are able to accompany the main traveler by obtaining a long term visa based on the working spouse’s temporary residence permit and legalized marriage/birth certificates. Based on the long term visa an application for temporary residence permit can be filed.

From a non-visa country your partner can arrive to Ukraine for 90 cumulative days within 180 days. From a visa country a short term visa C must be obtained. It is given for 90 days without any allowance to extend. In case of long term stay, long term visa D for private purpose must be obtained due to which it is possible to apply to the Migration Service for applicable residence permit.
